Original is a large oil on canvas. I wish I could better convey in words the emotion behind this canvas. That desire to stop feeling when it hurts too much. When our passion or love, our grief or heartache or loneliness is too acute, too intense. In those moments we may even think it would be better to rip out our own heart so that we don’t feel anything at all. I represented this idea with a man intentionally because I feel that our cultures put more pressure on men to not feel, not be passionate, not express their pain. What a lie and what a tragedy to suppress that which makes us human.
