Hello!
Larenda Haden, visual artist, in her art studio

What would life be if we hadn't courage to attempt anything?
                               ~ Vincent van Gogh

I am an American artist; born and raised in Rogersville, Missouri and living in Antigua, Guatemala.  Much of my inspiration for art comes from the beauty of these two special places.

As far as my art education goes, it has been one of a lifetime of interest, passion, trial, and error. There have been so many people who have inspired and spurred on my love of art; my grandmother, school teachers, friends. I'm also extremely thankful for my parents, who always encouraged me from a very young age and kept me in art supplies (which, now that I buy my own, I realize must have cost them a small fortune!).

My art is an expression of the beauty and complexity I see in the world and inside of myself. Basically, creating is like breathing to me. I need it to live.  So I paint and draw and sculpt as often as I can. When painting I love using bright color and thick brush strokes to express emotion and movement.  If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a painting is worth a thousand intangible thoughts, unable to be expressed except through art.

Nowadays, I'm jumping in to the art scene here in Guatemala.  I participate regularly in artisan festivals and gallery exhibitions as well as selling my work here online.  My next big goal is to host my own art exposition. Keep your eyes open for that announcement coming later this year!
